HARVEST of 2024 vintage – small and mighty!

Fabulous tasting fruit but so much smaller tonnage than previously. Thus ‘small and mighty’ is our description for the vintage of 2024. It took our veteran team of wonderful volunteers much longer to pick than larger harvests simply because they had to carefully select the best and ripest bunches and remove the bird damaged fruit. They ensured that the grapes were perfect before being crushed. Heroic is the term for our volunteers!

2024’s summer sent out the challenges – a cold start in spring, wet weather amidst spells of good sunshine and a clouded autumn conspired to produce a smaller vintage. This then was attacked by the birds and beasts with gusto never seen before. They must have been starving. That’s Mother Nature at work!  However, the berries developed wonderful flavours to savour. Indeed a small, perfectly-formed vintage.
